A vital piece of information. Be straight to the point, mention the category, position type, location and salary.

The Job Description

The Don'ts
-
Discriminate
-
Misslead
-
Overload
-
Not train
-
Be lazy
-
Take too long to make the decision
A job description must capture the applicants imagination as well as include enough detail about the position to prevent the unwanted or unqualified candidates from wasting your time by applying. For example a degree in a certain specialist subject or the duties involving watching paint dry can put off the people that you do not want but attract the people that you do.

Writing a salary in Annual Gross always sounds better if the position is full time and permanent but for a job that is paid by hour with fewer hours, disclose the hourly gross salary. It will attract the applicants.

If there are any perks about the job or questions that the candidates may ask, make sure that you include them! It will also save you time. For example, if the position has accommodation provided, let the applicant know what type of accommodation it will be. If you know the working days / hours make sure that they are written down.

Having the correct mixture of pros and cons about a position will attract the correct candidates! Don't waste their time or your time and be realistic about your expectations.

Selecting CV & Interviews
Select the top 5 candidates for your vacancy, making sure that you are liberal with your selection as more often than not candidates will surprise you. Pay attention to their interests and hobbies as you will may be spending a lot of time with these people in the future. When interviewing candidates, make sure to have their CVs in front of you and have some questions ready. The interview can be official in an office environment, a cafe or even virtual. Make it easier for you.

Why did they leave their previous job?
How long did they work at x and y? (you should already have answers to this questions)
Always consider their private life situation and how it may impact their work. Do they have too many hobbies?

Make sure that the candidates turn up 5 min early or at least on time for the interview. Candidates who are late, are often consistently late throughout their employment.

Don't forget, you can always set up a second interview..

Checking references
This is a vital part to a successful placement. Do not be lazy and just believe the person who you have met for the first few times even if they sound very convincing. Have a list of questions ready for the referee in correlation to your interview and preferably a written reference. If someone has truly been employed, the referee will find it easy to give you straight answers. Make sure that you also have them prepared.
